Card Patterns #26 + gift holder tutorial

Saturday, August 1, 2009

Hello hello, it's the weekend again! What could be more fun than participating in a Card Patterns card sketch challenge while winning prizes or a guest designer spot? This week's sketch is gorgeous, like seriously dude. Check it out yo:
I'm really in love with the transparent card bases, lots of fun layering your cardstock & patterned paper! i even tried sewing on mine just to try it out & it turned out gorgeous! Just another way to adhere paper to your acetate card base ;)

That gorgeous paper is from Scenic route (sonoma collection methinks) & the stamp set I used for the tea time accent is from Papertreyink's 'Tea for Two'. The fabric brad is from Imagininsce if i recall correctly.
We made an extra project this week using their pre-cut & pre-scored gift card holders as well. (dandy!) I went for a totally fem feel for mine:

Didn't want to pull away the focus from my pretty butterfly so i kept the decoration of the card holder to a minimum. I hope you like it as much I do ;)

Btw, Our generous sponsors for next 2 upcoming weeks is Shortcuts! Really generous sponsors they are ;) they sent us lots of stuff to play with! So loving them :) Their ready-to-assemble-and-decorate products will help you create stunning creations in minutes. Make sure you drop by their blog for lots of inspiration from their design team
Visit Shortcut's online store and enter the discount code CardPatterns15 during checkout and receive:15% off your order!(15% will be taken off package price only, not S/H charges. Orders must contain at least $5.00 in product and be placed before August 31, 2009)

Here's how I made the butterfly:

1. Buff edges of Maya Rd chipboard butterfly using nail buffer or your Basic Grey files

2.Paint butterfly with Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint (i used tattered rose) These paints dry out pretty fast, put in a few drops of water and shake if so

3.Let dry or use a heat gun (like little ol' impatient me)

4. Sponge on some Distress Inks to create emphasis in between the crackle (i used vintage photo & tattered rose) & wipe of excess with baby wipe/towel

5. Mix some pearl ex with a few drops of water & slather onto butterfly, spray acrylic coating or whatever medium you have to set the pearl ex mixture.

6. Adhere embellies (i used some lace ribbon, buttons & string ) & you're done! :)

Whether you're inspired today to make a card or a gift card holder, we hope you'll join us!Link your take on the sketch using Mr. Linky boxover at this Card Patterns post by Friday, August 7 at 11:59PM Eastern Standard Time. There's a guide how to use Mr. Linky HERE.

Remember, you stand chance to win a $15 gift cert from Shortcuts as well as a chance to be a guest designer for one of our upcoming sketches.

I hope you peeps are having a great weekend out there! Thanks for stopping by.

Easter Bunny Madness!

Thursday, April 9, 2009

Are you in love with bunnies as much as I am?? Beth was searching for bunnies over at the papertreyink forum a few days ago & totally inspired me to create these!! I took inspiration from Pine's post here. And I made them cuter (i think) *lol* Keep reading on, there're 2 cards I made with these little cuties as well as a video to show you how I made them. Here're the bunnies in their full glory (hint: you'll see one of them used for the Card Patterns sketch this saturday)

Ok, so what are bunnies without carrots you say? I handcut the carrot out (minus the stick for the old carrot & stick routine), adhered it with dimensionals & then tied some string around it. LOVE IT!!! The 'mixed messages' set from PTI worked perfectly for that sentiment on the tiny carrot. Papers are also from papertreyink. I also added a bigger bunny tail for this little cutie. (he's the big bunny boss of the lot)

I also created a little scene with the bunny hopping on this card. The clouds are from a Sassafras stamp set & the quotes are from 2 different Rubber Soul stamp sets. Also did some doodling on the card to make it look like the bunny is leaping, as well as hand cutting the grass patch.

These cards are sold! They pretty much went off the shelves as soon as I made them. That's how cute they are *lol* Totally tempted to make one now? Check out the video below, enjoy! Pls come back and share with me if you made some :)
I'm starting a little shop blog (still in construction) will let you know when it's up ;) A reason why I started a separate shop blog is because I don't wish to pollute this blog with too much 'buy me buy me now' things. I know that because I'm a reader myself & I wouldn't really like that. On the other hand, i'd like to make it easier for peeps to buy my cards as I do have peeps who are non-scrappers/cardmakers coming in here. So please bear with me *hugs all round*
In the meantime, here's the video hope you likey ;)

Tomorrow's easter, yeay!!! Have a great day!

Tutorial Tuesday: Double bows, not only for Easter!

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Hey there peeps! I'm so in love with tying bows like these at the moment, so I thought I'd share 2 cards with you that has the same type of bows on them :) And of course, they're easter-ish! Most of my cards are sold, thank you so much! This red one below is still available, if you'd like to purchase it email me at fetishforpaper(at)gmail(dot)com :)

Dimensions of the card is 3" by 4.25" & will come with an envelope and a custom envelope seal with your initial. Local postage (singapore) is free & USD$1 for other countries. The card is USD$3 :)

I made the above card with the intention on focusing on that GORGEOUS sentiment (stamp set's from the Rubber Soul deal i told you about few weeks ago buy 2 get 1!) & I think you could just make out images from Papertreyink's 'life' set stamped with versamark there.
These bows are really simple to do, check out how from the video i made below. Just a quick note, use these on cards that have strip/s of ribbon adhered to them & then do the double bow separately and adhere with some Zip dry or fabric glue. I totally love working with satin ribbons for this technique, simply because they're easier to work with & they give off a nice, soft sheen look. You could make it with pretty much any ribbons though, I made the how-to video using some saddle stitched grosgrain :)

Here's another card using a double bow:

This card is actually made from a piece of scrap cardstock I had lying around after cutting out a large circle from it. I used a piece of transparency from Hambly's (LOVE it!) & made it into a window card :) The cute little squirel & the sentiment is from this New clear dollar stamp set & the cardstock plus ribbon is from Papertreyink.

Here's a video to show you how I made the bows, it's a really quick one & prob has some shots out of the frame (darn!) but I think you'll get it haha.

ps: if you've noticed i changed a few things around on my blog, most obviously the background colour & also smal things like the width of the side bar etc. i noticed that some peeps actually charge to do these things for you, but seriously you can find everything & anything you need to know about using blogspot over at bloggerbuster.com !
Have a great day, more cute things lined up for the next few days! :)

Card Patterns #9

Saturday, April 4, 2009

woot woot! welcome to sketch 9 :) I've got something special up my sleeve for today, I made this card awhile back & some of you requested a tutorial so I incorporated that into today's sketch & made a video tutorial for it. I hope you like it :) So here's my take:

This card was great fun to make! You could use all sorts of accents for the cut out window, I tried hearts the last time and stars for this one. I'm thinking frogs for my next one? To kinda weave in the spring theme :) If you do try this out, please share with me ok?

Cosmo cricket 'oh happy day' paper collection used for this card & I used a fiskars star punch + my pink sewing machine for some edges. Love my pink mean sewing machine! I'm thinking I should go out & get some fabric to play with soon. More uses, right? haha

Here's the video!!

So remember to post your take on sketch #9 over at Card Patterns, this week's sponsor is Created With Paper & they've got a great prize! You also stand a chance to be our next Guest Designer too, one take two chances isn't that great? So quick, go !
Have a great weekend peeps :)

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday!

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Hi all! Welcome to another tutorial video featuring moi :) I've decided on a whim to share with you a video *hopefully* every Tuesday, if not every 2nd Tuesday. Why on a tuesday? Just so I can call it 'Tutorial Tuesday' *lol* Also because making videos are fun! So please feel free to let me know what kind of videos you're interested to see and if time permits I'll gladly make them for you :)
For today, I'll be sharing with you a Card set holder template that I came up with. Really fun & easy to do! It might ring a bell with Papertreyink fans out there because it does look similar to one of Lauren Meader's timeless templates but I took a look at it and came up with a version of my own :)
Enjoy!

Here's the completed project with inside lining & band. The 'handmade' sentiment is from papertreyink's 'B&C monogram ed' & the 'stationery' is stamped with their 'simple alphabet' stamp set. I've ordered the 'Simply Stationery' set as well (which I expect to get anytime now!) so this template will come in really handy!

Isn't this a great idea for a gift? I forgot to mention in the video but you can also punch a half circle on the bottom border (see photo above) so it will be easier to take out those cards when you eventually fill the box in. I haven't make any cards to fill it in with yet, soon I hope :)

Another great piece of news to share with you, I've been asked to be on the Design Team for Papier House! They're coming up with their very own stamps/patterned paper line for the local children market, I can't wait!
Also, for those of you out there who wish to buy completed card sets (monogrammed or themed cards) as gifts, I'll be happy to make some for you too! Just drop me an email or use the chatbox on the left side of the page.
I hope you've enjoyed the video tutorial, I'll be posting another take on this template tomorrow :) Let me just say it's orange & lacey *lol*
Please share with me if you make any, I'd love to see.
Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Just little playback with the old shrink plastic, thought i'd share how I make my scissor charms :) I hope you likey!
ps: can you hear Jack Johnson in the background? He's presently my favourite 'create-along' artist. That word reminds me of Lamb Chops play-along! Anyone remember that sock faced lamb character?
'This is the song that doesn't end, yes it goes on & on my friend bla bla' Yes, I was a lamb chop kid *lol*
