Some Birthday Love....

Friday, March 19, 2010

Happy Birthday to Moi :) It's been sweet so far..my guy made a scrumptious breakfast for me this morning and even arranged it nicely...he's a sweet one. :) Also had a little birthday love from Heroarts last night when i saw that I was one of the winners picked for their spring challenge. I took quite some time off the last 6 months or so and didn't submit any cards for calls or challenges etc so it's good to know I can still make cards that people like.But first here's the winning card: Lots of stamping, inking & heat embossing on this one. Had tons of fun! Cut the branch using my Silhouette SD with white cardstock then sponged it with some distress inks.

The background is also stamped, then sponged, then heat embossed & sponged again. Prolonged exposure to stamps, inks & paper + tons of lovely tools will provide bouts of happy delirousness!! The butterflies are punched out with some Martha Stewart punches and the patterned paper used is from pebbles. Used up the remaining scrap from my birthday invites here.
Here's the post on the Heroarts blog:
I'll be heading off for a nice dinner tonight, planning to enjoy myself thoroughly in the afternoon with more papers, inks & stamps!! :)
Thanks for stopping by & have a FAB weekend.

Guest Star Stamper for March!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

OH MY GOD, i couldn't believe my eyes when i received a mail from jennifer ellefson telling me i'd won the March Guest Star Stamper contest for papertreyink ! I'm so happy :)

Here's my winning entry :

I really had so much fun making this card, especialy when I was colouring the images in & creating the different backgrounds with stamps.

Here's a close up of the flowers:

I coloured in the flowers & leaves from the 'Friends till the end' Papertreyink stamp set with Copic Markers. I really love those markers, they give images such a rich colour!
I also created the yellow 'summer sunrise' cardstock background stamped with the all the different sentiments from the set lined up (fun to do plus another use for the sentiments) .
The green 'spring moss' cardstock background was stamped with the lines from 'Journalling lines' Papertreyink stamp set with black versafine ink & the bright 'raspberry fizz' cardstock was stamped with the 'polka dots basic' stamp set also from PTI.
The whole thing is then mounted on dimensionals & onto some 'dark chocolate' cardstock. I also added some buttons (threading them through with some leftover dark yellow thread I had lying around) to add more texture to the flowers.
What a great month it has been! Truly a great birthday present from Papertreyink :) Do check out the other 2 winners here, the official post isn't up on Nichole Heady's blog yet.
Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Happy news from PapertreyInk & a card

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

I got a honourable mention from PapertreyInk's owner, Nichole heady for their Guest Star Stamper competition that happens every month! The HM is for January 2009's GSS.
Oh Happy News :) My work published in Scrapbook News and Review & a HM from my fave stamp company all in the same week, yeay!
The permalink for Jan's GSS winners is here.
Ok, time get down from Cloud 9. I have another V-day card to share with you today using from PTI [papertreyink] 'love songs' stamp set. I really love the cute images in it, although I didn't use it on this card. Have yet to ink up all of the images, so watch out for more Love themed cards in the upcoming week!
Patterned papers, love em! are from the Basic Grey bittersweet collection. I must say it's one of, if not my fave V-day collections this year.
I punched out the heart with my heart shaped EK success punch & matted it on dark brown. The heart is then adhered onto a piece of glittered paper from DCVW & then onto a co-ordinating cardstock from the same BG collection. The poppy red border's done using a fiskar's punch [sadly i can't recall the name of it, oops!]

I loved these 2 separate sentiments from the stamp set & wanted to make it look like there's continued message inside. So I cut a strip of cardstock & made it like a little book where u can open to see the sentiment :)
Oh, and that furry little red heart braddie's from doodlebug!

Thanks for stopping by today, have a great week!

ps: copic pics up tomorrow I hope! I'm working on a tutorial for you girls, on top of my daily work + packing up for trip to Jkt for chinese new year this weekend. Hopefully I'll manage to get that up before I fly off on Sat :)

Love, Inspiration & a Goody!

Saturday, January 3, 2009

Hi all! How's your weekend going? I'm having a good one so far, 3 things to share with you today :)

First of all, a Valentine-themed card that I made late last night. I dug out my new 'heart blocks' cuttlebug embossing folder & embossed my white card, leaving a small space at the bottom for ribbons & sentiments. I used a similar technique {partial embossing} on this card as well. For today's card I also tried a technique called 'cuttlebug smooshing' , only I did it without a brayer because I don't own one & I'm too cheap to get one. hah The cuttlebug smooshing is kinda subtle here, I used 'tattered rose' distress ink with the folder. Just smooshed the whole ink pad on the top side of the embossing folder {the side that shows on the front of the card}

Then using a dauber I highlighted alternating hearts with 'Worn lipstick' distress ink. Kinda turned out splotchy on the hearts but I like that effect :) I then tied a nice ribbon around the front of the card & attached my sentiment onto the ribbon with a small gold safety pin.

Did I tell you how much I love PapertreyInk stamps? If you don't own some, you really don't know what you're missing! :) They are so versatile, don't think i can live wihtout 'em. Annnnywayyysss, I used Mixed messages on the tag & Heartfelt basics for the sentiment inside. Hope you likey !

Still on the topic of Papertrey, I got totally inspired by their senior design team this morning to sort out my cards! The team got a Birthday Organization challenge & came up with so many great ideas! Go see all of them here.

Normally i just stick my cards into this plastic drawer that I have, and try not to look at the mess. {most of the time I just pretend it's not there} But when I saw all the beautiful ideas the team came up with, I HAD to do something. So there you go, behold my new ORGANIZED card drawer! :)

I measured the box & cut out 8 pieces of white cardstock into 5" x 7.5" to fit on the inside. You'd want to make sure you measure the top end of the cs {in this case the 7.5" side to be slight lower so u can add tabs later}

Then I used a piece of scrap PP & trimmed then into 1" strips & just adhered onto the top of each piece. I punched out eight 1 3/8" white circles & stuck them to 1.5" kraft circles, stamping on the top end related sentimens. Almost all of the sentiments I used are from the Mixed Messages set. LOVE it!

Here's another look. I feel so good about myself now, there's just something about getting organized that just gives a natural high. NO chocolate needed in the process!! Can you believe it took me 30 minutes to get everything done? {including making the separators}

Last but not least, I got my goody from Heroarts this morning too! It's a little prize for my Honourable Mention win I think about 2 weeks ago. I woke up to this package sitting on my dining table :) *beaming*
.
Look what I got! Heroarts is so generous, I love the flower stamp they sent me. Off to play with my new goodies, you have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by! :)

Lo & Behold, i got an HM for Lisa Spangler's 'Minute Card' challenge last week :) I mean, i've tried my luck at some of their contests & it's been really tough with all the amazing work the girls put out there. So! Even a HM makes me Happy :)

Will do a screen print thingy when i wake up tomorrow, not using my own laptop + my head's gone a little fuzzy wuzzy. Sweet Dreams to y'all !
